In the glass industry, selenium metal can be used for decolorizing container glass and tinting in sheet and plate glass. When used in metallurgy, selenium is an additive to steel and copper to improve machinability. It can also be used as a grain refiner in lead acid batteries and in the production of selenium dioxide.
